MJSSR GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS
The Faculty of Sport Science and Recreation, at the Universiti Teknologi MARA, 40450 Shah Alam, SELANGOR, MALAYSIA, welcomes manuscripts on original research, theoretical reviews and applications from professionals and practitioners in the field of Sport Science and Recreation, in Malaysia, Asia and the rest of the world, with the understanding that contents are original and have not been previously published or currently been submitted to other journals for publication. The Editorial Board of the Malaysian Journal of Sport Science and Recreation is prepared to consider for publication:
- Reports of empirical studies likely to further our understanding of Sports Science and Sports Management;
- Critical reviews of the literature;
- Theoretical contributions; and
- Applied contributions.
The Editorial and Board and two anonymous referees will assess all submitted manuscripts in terms of their scientific merit, readability, and interest to a general readership, to decide their inclusion in the journal. Initially, the manuscript would be reviewed by the Editorial Board to assess its academic merit. Those considered to be without academic merit would be returned to the author(s). Manuscripts deemed appropriate to have academic merit will be submitted to two anonymous referees considered to have expertise in the area relating to the contents of the manuscripts for review.
The referees will not be made aware of the identity of the author(s). All information about the authorship including personal acknowledgments and institutional affiliations should, therefore, be confined to a removable front page (and the text should be free of all clues that might reveal the identity of the author (s).
Submission of manuscripts
The manuscript should be submitted as an e-mail attachment to malaysianjournalssr@gmail.com and addressed to the Editor-in-Chief, Malaysian Journal of Sport Science and Recreation, Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation, Universiti Teknologi MARA, 40450, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia.
Or the manuscript can be submitted via the website of Malaysian Journal Management System (MyJMS) at http://myjms.mohe.gov.my/index.php/mjssr/about/submissions. Authors need to register with the journal at MyJMS prior to submitting or, if already registered, author can simply login and begin the five-step process.
Length of manuscripts
Manuscripts send to the journal should be a clear presentation of the subject matter of the contents of the manuscript. Manuscripts should be typed with double-spacing on an A4 paper with at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) margins and all pages should be numbered. The manuscript should not be more than 5,000 words including tables, illustrations, and references. The Editor-in-Chief retains the discretion to publish manuscripts beyond this length if he considers it necessary to ensure clarity of the paper.
The first page should include the title of the manuscript, first name, middle name (s), and last name of the author(s) as well as the name of their institutions and professional affiliations. The full name and address of the author identified as the correspondent (including fax number or e-mail address if possible) should also be at the bottom of the page.
The second page should repeat the title with the abstract without the author(s) names listed. The abstract should be between 150 to 250 words and should provide a concise summary of the objective, methods, results and conclusions of the article.
Citations and References
The manuscript should be referenced according to the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition format. Authors’ are advised to make minor modifications to the APA referencing format in other to accommodate Malaysian name, allowing for (Abdul R.) to be written in full as (Abdul Razak) to include both the first name and surname.
Illustrations, Tables, and Figures
The manuscript should also follow the APA 6th edition format for illustrations, tables, and figures. Tables should be typed in double spacing, each on a separate piece of paper with a self-explanatory title. Tables should be comprehensible without reference to the text. They should be placed at the end of the manuscript with their approximate locations indicated in the text. Figures should be produced direct from authors’ originals and should be presented as good black and white images preferably on high contrast glossy paper, carefully labeled with capital/lower case lettering. Unnecessary background patterns, lines, and shading that could create confusion should be avoided.
Acceptance
The Editor-in-Chief will send a letter of acceptance after reviewing the evaluation of the manuscript from two independent and anonymous referees. He or she has the right to make any additional changes to the manuscript that has already been reviewed. The final copy including modifications based on the referees’ comments should be as an e-mail attachment to the Editor-in-Chief.
Proofs
Proofs are sent to authors for correction of print but not for rewriting or the introduction of new material. Proofs will be sent by e-mail to the first or nominated author, for the author to check and correct typographical errors, but not for general revision or alteration of the manuscript. Proofs should be returned to the Editor-in-Chief by e-mail within three weeks of receipt.
