Populasi Bandar dan Peningkatan Sisa Makanan: Ancaman terhadap Sekuriti Makanan

Abstract

Menjelang 2050, 50 peratus penduduk dunia akan menetap di bandar. Pertambahan penduduk di kawasan bandar akan menyebabkan permintaan terhadap makanan di kawasan bandar meningkat. Dengan itu, bandar akan menjadi titik fokus pemasaran pelbagai jenis makanan. Dalam keadaan ini, dijangkakan bahawa penghasilan sisa makanan juga akan meningkat di kawasan bandar. Namun begitu, di sebalik peningkatan sisa makanan itu, wujud sekelompok penduduk bandar yang berhadapan dengan isu kekurangan makanan. Ini merupakan salah satu petunjuk kepada isu sekuriti makanan. Oleh itu, walaupun kawasan bandar menjadi tumpuan pasaran makanan namun ia juga berhadapan dengan isu sekuriti makanan. Penulisan ini merupakan satu cubaan awal untuk menjelaskan perkaitan antara tiga kata kunci utama iaitu, “kawasan bandar,” “sisa makanan,” dan “sekuriti makanan.” Persoalan yang ingin dijawab dalam penulisan ini ialah, “adakah penghasilan sisa makanan satu ancaman kepada sekuriti makanan di kawasan bandar?” Penulisan ini adalah satu penulisan berbentuk kajian kepustakaan yang merujuk pelbagai bahan rujukan sekunder. Di akhir penulisan akan ditunjukkan sejauh mana peningkatan sisa makanan menggugat sekuriti makanan di kawasan bandar bersama-sama peluang-peluang yang wujud untuk mengurangkan tekanan sekuriti makanan di kawasan bandar.
