Abstract

The Miao people perform the Jinji Dance, an ethnic dance that, to some extent, demonstrates their traditional practices and reflects aspects of their way of life. Lusheng dance of Miao ethnicity was added to intangible cultural assets in 2006. Since then, the Chinese government has made efforts to preserve this rich cultural legacy by incorporating it into the curricula of educational institutes. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the educational benefits of the incorporation of traditional Jinji dance in art courses by promoting students’ participation, studying inheritance, and appreciating the traditional cultural heritage among students. The teaching of traditional Jinji dance infiltrates national cultural knowledge, such as the origin of dance, cultural concepts in the development process, national customs, philosophical concepts, and humanistic knowledge. These create a sense of love, respect, preservation of traditional dance culture, promotion of tourism, and cultural diplomacy. Based on this awareness and knowledge, the student will be able to advocate for the preservation of cultural heritage and promote culture among other nations.

Keywords: Jinji dance, educational benefits, preservation, inheritance, traditional culture.
