Conservation Process of Traditional Malay Houses in Cultural Village Complex

Abstract

Traditional Malay houses, which highlight the country's rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship, are part of Malaysia's architectural legacy. Conservation is essential to preserve the rich cultural heritage of traditional malay house in cultural village complex. This study focuses on the conservation process of traditional malay houses. This study also highlights various problems in maintaining the conserved traditional Malay houses within a cultural village complex. This study has identified several problems that cause disruptions and are major obstacles in the conservation process, such as the lack of documentation. Other than that, there is no measured drawing available in these traditional malay houses. This research employed a qualitative methodology that involved site observation on case studies and interviews with the building management team. Then, the potential strategies and innovative approaches that can be used to address these problems will be outlined, aim to achieve a balance between conservation efforts and the demands of contemporary life. It was found that many conservation processes were carried out, especially historical research, dilapidation surveys, and conservation work process. It is hoped that this study has contributed to the ongoing study of the conservation process in traditional Malay houses to protect this valuable architectural heritage.
