Some Psychological Characteristics and Suggestions to Learn English for 6-Year-Olds
Abstract
This study explores the psychological characteristics of 6-year-olds in Vietnam and provides targeted suggestions for effectively teaching them English. At this developmental stage, children exhibit concrete thinking, a short attention span, rapid memory development, and are highly sensitive to praise and criticism. They are naturally curious and thrive in supportive, interactive environments. Socially, they learn through imitation, desire peer interaction, and are influenced by their peers' attitudes towards learning. Language development at this age is marked by an ability to accurately mimic pronunciation, rapidly expand vocabulary, and grasp basic grammatical structures. The paper recommends interactive and play-based learning approaches, including games, storytelling, and role-playing, to engage young learners. Visual and auditory aids, such as pictures, flashcards, songs, and rhymes, can enhance comprehension and retention. Finally, professional development for teachers, focusing on early childhood education and cultural sensitivity, is essential for optimizing teaching strategies.
