Abstract

Online teaching and learning (T&L) is developing greatly nowadays, especially when the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) struck the world near the end of 2019. It changed our previous norms in a lot of aspects, with academics being one of the most affected areas. Hence, the practice of online classes with the usage of numerous online platforms started to rise and is becoming more popular these days as T&L sessions have been made easier with the help of these online applications. The purpose of this study is to explore some of the most popular online platforms that are being used to teach, especially teaching English language to university students. This study will help academicians to have a better understanding of the online applications that are being favored by both academicians and students today. Data is gathered from questionnaires answered by academicians from higher institutions, mainly from the language field, and by UniMAP students. The results suggest that the usage of online applications namely Google Classroom and TikTok plays an essential role in ensuring the success of T&L sessions.
