Role of ICT in TVET Education: Teaching & Learning amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

Nowadays, technology has impacted almost every aspect of life, and education is no exception. This is due to the potential of technology in providing many opportunities for formal and informal online learning worldwide.  With the help of technology, learning is not only limited to the physical classroom, but it is expanded in many varieties of virtual classrooms, where the teacher and the students are physically distant.  With the help of technology, today access to learning opportunities is extraordinary in scope. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to elaborate on the key role of ICT in education in general. More specifically, this paper aims to elaborate on the vital role of ICT in Teaching Vocational Education & Training (TVET) education. This is due to the fact that technical and vocational education is one of the main areas in education that ICT integration can enhance its productivity. Moreover, technical and vocational education is an important pathway for college students and their skills development. In addition, this paper provides an overview of the benefits of using ICT for teachers, students, and school management. In addition, a conceptual review on the factors influencing the usage of ICT from various aspects of teachers, students, school, and social is presented in this paper. Reasonable ICT integration can effectively improve students' academic performance. Due to the sudden outbreak of COVID-19, the importance of ICT in education has become more noticeable. ICT played an important role in supporting teaching and learning during the epidemic. However, there are still some unsatisfactory problems in the implementation process, such as teachers' mentality and economic level.
