Synergetic Effect of Electroconvulsive Therapy and Clozapine therapy in Treating Severe Intractable Aggressive Behaviour in an Adult with Intellectual Disability: A Case Report
Abstract
There is scarce of literature on the use of clozapine or Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in patients with intellectual disability for aggression, much less a combination of clozapine and ECT. Studies have shown a promising result with either use of ECT or clozapine in treating aggressive behaviour and to the best of our knowledge, we report the first case of combination use of ECT and clozapine in treating severe intractable aggressive behaviour in a 19-year-old male patient with severe intellectual disability. The combination use of ECT and clozapine appear to have a synergetic and efficacious effects in treating intellectual disability with aggressive behaviours.
