Drug Addiction Treatment In Malaysia: A Comparison
This article focuses on drug addiction treatments implemented by the National Antidrugs Agency (Agensi Antidadah Kebangsaan (AADK), and treatment using Islamic spiritual elements at Private Drug Rehabilitation Centre (Pusat Pemulihan Dadah Persendirian (PPDP) in Malaysia. The main objective of this article is to highlight some differences in methodology of drug addiction treaments between the AADK and PPDP. In order to achieve the objective, this article used mix method comprising of qualitative approach and field research. Qualitative approach is carried out as collective data on scholarly articles and academic writings related to the drug addiction treatments that have already been published. In addition, field research is implemented through series of interviews with respondents from related institutions. The result of the study concludes that the treatments adopted by the AADK and PPDP showed differences in philosophy and thus affected the methodologies utilized in dealing with drug addiction patients in Malaysia.
