Abstract

The project is carried out to assess the ability of the polymer composite machining using a milling machine. This study describes the general methods of polymer composite machining as well as the results of laboratory tests are conducted, namely hardness testing. In this experiment, the composite is fiberglass reinforced polyester while the milling machine is selected for the machining process. Fiberglass is the material that is strong and powerful and lighter. Polymer hardness testing using Barcol Hardness Hardness Tester tool. Hardness test showed the lowest reading is 46B at a speed of 500ppm, while the highest is 55B at a speed of 1000ppm. Through hardness testing, it was found that the polymer composite is machined at 1000ppm speed has a higher hardness.
